Optical simulation of quantum logic
WebAbstract A constructive method for simulating small-scale quantum circuits by use of linear optical devices is presented. It relies on the representation of several quantum bits by a single photon, and on the implementation of universal quantum gates using simple optical components (beam splitters, phase shifters, etc.). WebThe first step is to create a graph-like structure made from optical cables and splitters. Each graph has a start node and a destination node. The light enters through the start node and traverses the graph until it reaches the destination. It is delayed when passing through arcs and divided inside nodes.

WebJan 1, 2002 · The ma- jor drawback of an optical implementation of quantum computing is however, that the 2 n states of an n-qubit system can only be realized by 2 n distinct optical paths, usually implemented by a combination of beam-split- ters and phase shifting elements. This limits the useful- ness of the optical analog of a quantum computer. WebA systematic method for simulating small-scale quantum circuits by use of linear optical devices is presented.
